EditShare will partner with newsroom computer systems specialist OCTOPUS Newsroom Editshare-Geevs1
to develop the potential for complete, tapeless production systems for managing news
content and media.

EditShare chose to partner with OCTOPUS because of the software’s functions, robustness, cross-platform Mac and Windows client support, and cost-effective licensing. Incorporating the OCTOPUS6 newsroom system, which is MOS-compliant, into the EditShare tapeless workflow could also be expected to result in a complete, tapeless production system for managing news content and media.

Identified integration advantages include the ability to preview video asset proxies stored on the EditShare MAM system, from within the newsroom client. The relationship also opens distribution channels for OCTOPUS in North America.

When combined with EditShare shared storage, Flow media asset management, Geevs ingest and playout servers, and Ark backup and archive, OCTOPUS can access the whole news production process. News directors and reporters can browse assets, create rundowns, scripts and news packages. At time of broadcast, the rundowns can be loaded into EditShare Geevs servers for live playout. The two-way MOS communication between the OCTOPUS system and the Geevs playout server gives news directors instant feedback on which packages are ready for air, and allows for last-minute changes in the rundown as breaking news emerges.

The entire OCTOPUS workflow is compatible and integrates with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 as well. The OCTOPUS NLE plug-in enables available video clips to be viewed and searched. Users can access stories, scripts and graphics while editing footage in Premiere Pro CS6, allowing simultaneous editing of video, graphics and text on one screen.

Because EditShare and OCTOPUS are integrated through the MOS protocol, journalists using the newsroom client have direct, immediate access to content stored on the shared storage including tapeless material shot in the field, satellite feeds captured by Geevs or Flow Ingest servers, and clips stored in the archives. Users can also create placeholders in the rundown for events that have not yet been recorded or edits in progress. The timing of a broadcast can be assessed but still allow last-minute news gathering and editing.  www.editshare.com
