Elemental Release 2.0 Updates Platform for Multiscreen Video

Elemental Technologies builds video systems for multiscreen content delivery. It uses a flexible software architecture appropriate for pay TV operators, content programmers, studio and post-production houses, sports rights-holders and others, creating a software-based approach to large-scale video deployments. Designed to support GPU and CPU architectures, release 2.0 is now released for Elemental’s video processing products for packaging and streaming live and on-demand video.

The release adds and improves tools for multiscreen video delivery to create a unified platform. The performance density has also been increased due to updated processor architectures and an optimized video pipeline, within a single rack-unit footprint. Elemental software release 2.0 is currently deployed by more than one hundred customers.

Support for multiple codecs running simultaneously on a single platform provides now extends to a migration path from existing video delivery standards to future compression systems. Elemental runs MPEG-2, H.264, VC-1 and HEVC / H.265 encoding, and supports JPEG 2000 and ProRes mezzanine assets.

Streaming standards support has been extended beyond the common video streaming protocols such as Adobe RTMP and HTTP Dynamic Streaming HDS, Microsoft Smooth Streaming and Apple HTTP Live Streaming HLS. Elemental software now supports MPEG-DASH, Ultraviolet and 4K Ultra HD.

Encryption and protection systems now include Civolution forensic watermarking for live and VOD content, Adobe Flash Access, Apple Sample- AES and Microsoft PlayReady as well as DRM solutions from NDS, Verimatrix and Widevine.

ESAM dynamic ad insertion and Nielsen ID3 tagging are new ways that pay TV operators using Elemental can establish multiscreen video delivery and build up audience engagement and interaction. Media companies can also use the Adobe Primetime project for ad insertion as well as ad integration solutions from BlackArrow and mDialog.

The software now gives better support for audio encoding across the Elemental products, including support for DTS Express, Dolby Digital, Dolby E and Dolby Digital Plus. Further to this is support for Dolby Digital Plus in Apple HLS and Microsoft Smooth Streaming. Using audio loudness management, broadcasters can adhere to the CALM Act. New captioning tools, including caption burn-in, SMPTE-TT and SCC file creation will allow compliance with captioning requirements coming into effect later this year. Elemental makes it possible to caption content originally aired on television and destined for delivery over the Internet. www.elementaltechnologies.com
