Telestream Vantage Transcode HE Server Distributes Over-the-Top
Published on Monday, 14 May 2012
Telestream’s new Vantage Transcode HE Server is specialized to accelerate transcoding and
packaging for multiscreen delivery, including OTT, Web, mobile and IPTV.
| To produce high quality images rapidly, the Transcode HE Server uses Telestream LightSpeed, which is designed to process video and encode H.264 at speed on parallel GPUs, including AMD and Nvidia, and multicore CPUs, including AMD and Intel. The Transcode HE specifically addresses the requirements of adaptive bitrate workflows, and aims to handle the entire process of source file decoding, video processing, parallelized H.264 encoding, packaging, encryption, quality control and delivery - within a single system. | |

| Vantage Transcode HE Server supports decoding for various input file formats and accelerates H.264 encoding to Apple Adaptive Streaming, Adobe Dynamic Streaming, Microsoft Smooth Streaming and MPEG-DASH. By combining the power of GPUs and CPUs with the x264 codec, recognized for producing very high H.264 image quality, Vantage Transcode HE Server has the potential to produce high quality images in very short time frames. | |

| Whether the content resides in an archive, on a broadcast server, non-linear editor or a mobile phone, the server will process it without requiring manual transcoding. It has direct format and protocol compatibility with production and broadcast equipment – including broadcast servers, NLEs, MAM and production systems – which helps broaden the range of formats and environments available and allows automated workflow development directly within the Vantage Transcode HE system. Telestream LightSpeed is used to accelerate video processing and transcoding– including scaling, deinterlacing, frame rate conversion, motion vector calculation, compositing and other compute-intensive tasks. It can accelerate transcoding performance for very fast, simultaneous encoding to multiple resolutions and bitrates. Vantage Transcode HE Server also packages the media with thumbnail images, closed captions and metadata into ABR-compliant packages for delivery directly to origin servers or CDNs. As a single rack unit server it uses minimal space and electricity, and stays cool. Part of the Vantage product group, the Transcode HE Server can be used alone, clustered to increase capacity or added to an existing Vantage set-up. As well as planning, management and monitoring, Vanage can be used to extend workflows within a unified system to include analysis, automated decision-making and enterprise system management. Following the Vantage Transcode HE Server launch at NAB Show, availability is scheduled for mid-year 2012. www.telestream.net |
