Where the functionality and speed of Nitris DX or Mojo DX systems are not required, Io Express gives quality audio and HD/SD video capture, monitoring, and output. Combined with Media Composer 5.5, a more cost-effective capture, editing, monitoring, and output system is available for laptop or desktop computers.

The Media Composer 5.5 workflow with AJA Io Express includes HD/SD-SDI input/output and HDMI v1.3a input/output with Deep Color support at 30 bits per pixel. HD/SD Component video output is included with 10-bit HD to SD hardware downconvert if required.

ExpressCard-34 and PCIe interfaces are available for laptops or desktop use. Media Composer 5.5 supports a variety of industry standard SD and HD formats, frame rates and resolutions including Avid DNxHD.

Some other new capabilities in Media Composer 5.5 are native access and editing of Sony HDCAM SR Lite media through Avid Media Access, and working with Panasonic AVC-Intra projects, using multiple streams, with support for the new Nitris DX AVC-Intra hardware interface.
For video and audio editing/mixing control, EUCON support for Artist Control, Artist Mix, and Artist Transport control surfaces has been added.

Editors can use a new PhraseFind option to find clips faster, plus an improved Find tool files across local and shared storage bins, and directly manipulate transitions in the timeline with the expanded Smart Tool. They may also use proxies of H.264 material in AirSpeed MultiStream environments for faster response time and increased stream counts.
