Published on Thursday, 09 December 2010

Moving toward the release of Lightworks Open Source, EditShare has made the free
Lightworks 2010 Public Beta download available to interested participants to learn
about the Lightworks editing system and tools.

Lightworks was introduced in 1989. Users can edit during capture, using Firewire, SD and HD-SDI with optional I/O cards. The system allows resolution, format and codec independent edits, and real-time effects in SD, HD and 2K. A multi-track audio mixer with full bus routing and multiple mixes is included, plus customization templates for Avid and Final Cut Pro shortcuts. Film editors have support for 35mm 3-perf, 35mm 4-perf, and 16mm-20 and mixed film formats.

Third-party support includes Inscriber Titlemotion, Boris, Combustion, After Effects, Premiere Plug-ins, Sapphire, Digital Fusion and most applications that can exchange AVI, MXF and QuickTime files.

Editors can share projects with real-time review. I/O support covers Avid DNxHD, Apple ProRes, RED R3D, AVC-Intra, AVCHD, H.264, XDCAM HD and others including stereoscopic support for independent Left and Right files

Among the new tools and capabilities, some available as options, are Avid and Final Cut Pro keyboard shortcut preferences and native support for RED ROCKET cards, stereoscopic import and editorial support and stereoscopic output through SDI and DVI. There is also 10-bit and 16-bit DPX support and H.264 and AVCHD support for DSLR cameras. www.editshare.com/lightworks
