Lightworks was introduced in 1989 as one of the first professional editing systems available, with intuitive controls, real-time synchronization, and GPU effects pipeline architecture allowing Lightworks to scale with your system. Real time Primary and Secondary colour correctors and effects layers scale with your GPU. Lightworks has native support for MXF, Quicktime, AVI, RED R3D, DPX, Avid DNxHD, ProRes and many other formats, and also has extensive trimming tools.

Over a 40-year career, Editor Tariq Anwar has edited films from BBC documentaries to motion pictures including Oscar-winning ‘American Beauty’, ‘The Good Shepherd’, ‘Revolutionary Road’ and ‘Law Abiding Citizen’.

In an interview with Editshare, he related that after his apprenticeship, he first worked as an editor in television with the BBC. He first started working with Lightworks in the early 1990s, when his first major film opportunities also came his way. He said he especially likes its speed and ease-of-use, because the timeline is clear and uncluttered, editing and trimming can be achieved with a minimum of actions, the controller allows greater sensitivity, and audio editing and mixing is very effective.

Regarding editing feature-length films, Anwar said, “The most enjoyable thing for me is in the shaping of a film after the assembly stage. It’s amazing how malleable it is during the editing process, and then to make the material work in a way that wasn’t intended - either by luck or by judgment - is very exciting.”

Lightworks recently announced its first step in the rollout of Lightworks Open Source –Lightworks 2010 – available to interested people who register via the website. For more information about the Lightworks Open Source project, please visit www.editshare.com/lightworkswww.lightworksbeta.com
