MAXON Cinema 4D Builds MoGraph Style into TV Logos
With MAXON C4D, Double G Studios built a kit with a set of idents that allows Discovery UK
to create their own show clips, and Portugal’s Bikini animated UEFA’s Euro 2012 logo.
| The new idents on Discovery Channel UK feature clips from their series such as 'Mythbusters' that play directly within the globe of Discovery's shortened 'Globe + D' logo. Created by Double G Studios in London, the network idents were made with Adobe After Effects, using motion graphics support from CINEMA 4D. | |

| Identity Kit Creative Director at Double G Studios Grant Gilbert explained that Discovery wanted the team to supply them with a kit of parts that would let them quickly make up future versions of the idents themselves with After Effects. "We used CINEMA 4D's integration with After Effects to export the 3D data from CINEMA 4D so Discovery could replace the clips that play in the globe directly in After Effects without having to go back into CINEMA 4D and do a full 3D render. New versions of the idents can be generated in a fraction of the time it would take for a full-blown 3D render," he said. |

The idea to put recognisable content from Discovery’s regular series into the globe came from their desire to move away from abstract logos and link the channel's branding and content more directly. "Bringing the Discovery globe to the heart of their identity, the content, provided us with a creative platform that could house a huge variety of channel material," said Grant. Further to CINEMA 4D's support for After Effects, the Render Elements plugin for C4D by Adam Swaab was helpful in generating the large number of related idents. "Render Elements allowed us to manage countless variations of renders from within a single CINEMA 4D file," explained Grant. Discovery UK Creative won a total of 11 awards at the Promax UK awards in November 2011. Gold wins included the top categories, 'Channel of the Year’, 'People's Choice’, and 'Best Channel Branding Package’. |

| Soccer Symbolism Portuguese effects studio Bikini landed the job of creating the animated version of the logo for the UEFA 2012 European soccer championship. A distinctive, memorable symbol had to be devised. The studio’s creative director Helder Pombinho and team created dynamic animations based on designs from agency Brandia, starting as far back as 2009. |

Over the course of four months, the trio at Bikini developed video vignettes, clips, transitions and stills for the Euro 2012. CINEMA 4D’s MoGraph and Dynamics features were used to create attractive animations. There were a large number of quite varied involved. “The scenes were full of SubSurface Scattering”, said Helder. “It was one of the CINEMA 4D features we used the most allowing us to work with many 2D or 2.5D scene elements.” To ensure the animations captured the expression, style and feeling of the graphics they depicted, the artists had to avoid a photo-realistic look. CINEMA 4D’s renderer and its Sketch & Toon feature helped create the desired results. The effort paid off and the team was awarded the prize for Best Motion Graphics 2010 from the Creative Club Portugal. www.maxon.net |
