DVS SpycerBox Connects and Moves Content at Digit Digit

Hong Kong post production studio Digit Digit recently opened up its new studio in Beijing in 2012, their first site outside of Hong Kong. After the major update of its storage architecture in its headquarters in 2010 with four DVS SpycerBoxes, Digit Digit chose DVS products again when building up the core infrastructure of its new facility. The SpycerBoxes from DVS form 288 TB of central storage in a single namespace – aggregating all content processed on the third-party clients. This set up connects their compositing and VFX departments via low-latency Fibre Channel.

DVS’s content control software Spycer is a central component in the new setup. It allows facility-wide, cross-platform data management. Because the operators can search the entire network for video assets and their metadata and move the content within the post production chain, there is a potential to speed up the data flow. Organizing becomes faster and more transparent. The stand-alone Mephisto data manager handles defragmenting and descattering.

Digit Digit first opened in 1995, and specialise in commercial, television and cinema post production. Among their clients now are Canon, Coca Cola, Nikon, Sony and many others. Projects focus on commercial post accounts, and therefore data integrity and limiting downtime operation were primary requirements for their storage architecture.

Secure access is still granted with high speed connectivity, to protect assets against unauthorized modification. Nicky Ng, Executive Director at Digit Digit said that the main criteria for choosing DVS storage equipment were their reliability and performance stability, and the ability to maintain data integrity and security. www.digitdigit.com
