Iloura has been appointed as one of the VFX studios on ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’,
due for release in February 2012, and plans to increase capacity to handle over 500 shots
on the film.
Iloura’s artists will proceed on the new production as the facility’s work continues on ‘The Killer Elite’ and other projects. Executive Producer Simon Rosenthal said, “’Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ presents us with opportunity to work on another complex CG feature film project.” This project comes on the back of Iloura’s work on HBO’s ‘The Pacific’ and recent feature film ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’ with Guillermo Del Toro as well as the 3D feature ‘Sanctum’.
The film continues the story of the Marvel Comics supernatural antihero Ghost Rider and is a sequel to the 2007 film ‘Ghost Rider’. It will be directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Nicolas Cage returns to his role as Johnny Blaze, who is the Ghost Rider. The motorcycle-riding supernatural character Ghost Rider was created by writer-editor Roy Thomas, writer Gary Friedrich and artist Mike Ploog. He first appeared in ‘Marvel Spotlight’ in 1972.
Principal photography on the film started in Bucharest, Romania in November 2010 and was completed in January 2011. In this movie, Johnny struggles with his curse as the devil’s bounty hunter while hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe. He is recruited by a secret sect of the church to save a young boy from the devil. At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy and possibly rid himself of his curse.
The screenplay is by Scott M Gimple and Seth Hoffman, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, with a story by David S Goyer based on the Marvel Comic. Among the producers is former president of Marvel Comics Stan Lee. The film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures and Hyde Park Entertainment. www.iloura.com.au
