Autodesk Smoke 2013, a pre-release version of the company’s redesigned and repackaged Autodesk-smoke2013_Pre-Release1
video editing and VFX software for the Mac, is now available as a free trial download.

In mid-April 2012, Smoke 2013 video editing software was introduced at NAB where it received several awards, pre-registrations and continued positive public response. According to Autodesk its development follows research in which the users identified post production workflows and pipeline efficiency as factors central to their work. The three-month pre-release trial period is intended to give users the opportunity to experiment with the editing and effects workflow and provide more feedback to the developers.

The principle aspects of Smoke are the user interface, designed to support a track-based editing workflow with standard editing conventions and Autodesk creative tools. The node-based compositor ConnectFX is located inside the timeline to allow creation of effects without leaving editorial. The tools cover finishing, true 3D compositing with Action, grading and colour matching with Colour Warper, the Master Keyer for chroma keying in one step, and stereo 3D editing and effects. MediaHub project media management contains functions that work natively with common formats, from ingest to editing, effects and archiving.

Smoke runs on most Apple iMac and MacBook Pro systems using high-bandwidth Thunderbolt storage and IO. Tutorials are also available. www.autodesk.com
