Luxion KeyShot is a real time ray tracing and global illumination program, now in version 2.3 with
native support for the new Creo Parametric from PTC.
|Because 3D CAD is complex and specialized, it often requires engineers and designers to be experts in the parametric approach to CAD software. To assist, direct modelling was developed during the late 90s. Without history trees, an inexperienced designer could use this technology to create and change a model faster and more easily. However, users often had to choose between power and flexibility, intelligence and malleability.|
|PTC’s Creo has aimed to take the most useful aspects of both systems and make them compatible, and then divided them into apps – covering modelling tasks such as simulations, layout, schematics and viewing - so different users in the product development cycle could use only the specific tools they needed. For example, an engineer might be charged to create product. If his customer has trouble articulating what he wants, the engineer can send a version of the 3D design to the customer, who then opens the model in a simpler application to make his changes directly. He sends the changed model back to the engineer, who can still use the modified data in his more sophisticated modeller.
In addition to the apps in Creo, Luxion offers a free plug-in for all Creo customers that will connect Creo directly with KeyShot. KeyShot is available for both PC and Mac operating systems; KeyShot 2.3 is available for immediate download from
Luxion, who was selected by PTC as a launch partner for Creo in October of 2010, delivers one of the world’s first third-party visualization applications that supports Creo. Users can take their part or assembly file in their desired representation, and transfer it to the KeyShot real time ray-tracing environment. Once inside KeyShot, the user can rapidly turn Creo CAD data into photographic images using accurate materials and real world lighting.
Luxion will continue to support the PTC customer base by providing the ability to import Creo Parametric data natively into KeyShot on PC and Mac. In addition, Luxion offers a plug-in that provides a dynamic link between Creo Parametric and KeyShot, available to KeyShot customers free of charge on www.keyshot.com creo.ptc.com
